Initial Tongan volcano and tsunami insurance claims within New Zealand have hit 5.8 million dollars

Initial Tongan volcano and tsunami insurance claims within New Zealand have hit 5.8 million dollars

60 claims have been made - with 49 of those being related to marine craft.

The Insurance Council's Chief Executive Tim Grafton, says the surge wave through the Tutukaka marina damaged many boats and vessels.

He says there was also extensive damage to marina infrastructure - with one part of the marina being shifted entirely.
