Hospitality and tourism operators are counting down the days until more overseas workers are in the country

Hospitality and tourism operators are counting down the days until more overseas workers are in the country

Business is slowly picking up for some, with the easing of Covid restrictions and the reopening of the border to Australian tourists.

Job website Seek has seen a 62 percent increase in tour guide vacancies between February to March, and a 33 percent rise front office and guest service job ads.

Waiheke Island Tourism Incorporated chair Christina Hyde says the sector has been suffering.

She says once the borders closed they lost a lot of seasonal migrant workers, and they're waiting for them to come back.
