Waimakariri and Hurunui Districts have been selected to be part of the Police Rural Lookout trial.
A 2021 Federated Farmers and Police rural crime survey shows more than half of farmers have been the victim of crime in the last two years.
Hurunui Mayor Marie Black says as a leader of a large rural district, she often hears farmers talk about fuel theft and poaching, and how it affects them.
She hopes this new app will provide a direct link to Police and speed up investigations.
