An examination of the challenges facing women getting after birth contraception in South Auckland

An examination of the challenges facing women getting after birth contraception in South Auckland

A study published in the latest New Zealand Medical Journal has found only 58 percent of the more than 100 mums surveyed had postnatal contraception provided.

While some of them didn't believe in them, more than half didn't because of other reasons like excessive work or home commitments or transport troubles.

Auckland University Obstetrics and Gynaecology Senior Lecturer Dr Karaponi Okesene-Gafa says we could be doing more to help them out.

She says that would include things like after hour clinics, mobile clinics and home visits.
