Heavy rain that lashed Auckland is now causing chaos further down the country

There are a number of State Highway closures in Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Coromandel caused by slips.

A landslide has seen a house in Tauranga collapse, with officials onsite to evaluate the damage.

A state of emergency has been declared in the Waitomo District... less than a day after one was declared in Auckland.

Waitomo District Council worked through the night to fix a water main leak -- but that was unsuccessful due to flooding.

It says the issue is bigger than initially determined and teams will be back on site this morning to try again.

A water supply truck is now parked at the Les Munro Centre.
