The Government is being urged to go further to support families struggling in the cost of living crisis

From April 1, main benefits and student support will be increased by 7.2 percent to match inflation, alongside a boost to superannuation.

But the Mangere Budgeting Service says Working for Families also needs to be lifted, and GST lowered on foods like fruits and veges.

Chief executive Lara Dolan says the organisation - which offers food packages - is seeing demand similar to the worst of Covid-times.

She says about 30 percent of their clients are working people - which is a new group coming through the door - who weren't there before.
