A forestry company has been given special access to Marlborough's flood damaged Queen Charlotte Drive

A forestry company has been given special access to Marlborough's flood damaged Queen Charlotte Drive

Local Democracy Reporting Service says Tasman Pine Forest hasn't been able to harvest from its 600-hectare forest for two years.

Vehicle restrictions were introduced after the July 2021 storm, followed by a larger weather event in August 2022, which meant the company couldn't continue.

Chief executive Steve Chandler says they now have clearance to drive seven piloted logging trucks a day.

He says the trees are getting old and susceptible to blowing over, so they need to be harvested.
