The Government's hoping to boost support for New Zealand's social workers

The Government's hoping to boost support for New Zealand's social workers

The Social Workers Registration Act passed its first reading in Parliament last night.

It will extend the experience pathway for social worker registration by four years to February 2028.

The pathway allows people without prescribed qualifications -- but years of practical experience -- to register as social workers.

Social Development and Employment Minister Carmel Sepuloni says it demonstrates the Government's ongoing commitment to helping social workers.
