A warning for motorists to keep across the country's weather woes

A warning for motorists to keep across the country's weather woes

MetService has issued weather alerts for the North Island as the rain that has plunged Southland and Queenstown Lakes into a state of emergency tracks north.

It comes as the school holidays kick off.

Insurance Council's Christian Judge says if you're car has been flooded, don't drive it.

He says if there's floodwater, stay out of if you can.

Judge says you don't know what the hazards are in the water -- whether a man hole cover has come up, or what chemicals might be mixed in the water.
