Axeman Jason Wynyard has died from cancer aged 49

Axeman Jason Wynyard has died from cancer aged 49

He chopped and sawed his way to 14 timbersports world series titles from 1997 to 2017 which included records in the 19-inch single buck and 12-inch standing block chops.

In 2017 Wynyard was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the sport.

Here he is speaking to Radio Sport's High Performance Hour in 2013 about his hunger to triumph amid the sap and the sawdust.

In May, Wynyard was diagnosed with stage four Burkitt lymphoma.
