The North Island can expect some showers to kick off Labour Weekend

The North Island can expect some showers to kick off Labour Weekend

An area of low pressure's set to bring some cloudier skies and showers from Northland to the Bay of Plenty, but conditions will improve into the second half.

The south should stay relatively dry, some cooler air will bring temperatures down on Sunday.

MetService forecaster Thapi Makgabutlane says the early parts of the weekend look best if you're on the East Coast.

She says we've got the low mostly effecting top parts of the North Island, with the rest of the country seeing ridgy conditions for the bulk of the weekend.

Long weekend traffic is already building north of Wellington, and is expected to build up from 1pm south of Auckland.
