An online fundraiser has collected enough donations to cover a court fine imposed on a Far North woman dubbed the Tooth Fairy of Kaikohe

An online fundraiser has collected enough donations to cover a court fine imposed on a Far North woman dubbed the Tooth Fairy of Kaikohe

Claire Wihongi-Matene made and repaired dentures at cut-price costs -- but did so without qualifications.

She was charged with claiming to be a health practitioner, as well as six charges of performing a restricted activity.

Wihongi-Matene was fined seven thousand dollars, and also required to pay three thousand dollars in reparations and about a thousand dollars in court costs.

It appears her supporters are repaying the favour -- raising more than 11-thousand dollars of a 15 thousand dollar goal in six weeks.

There are no dentists in Kaikohe.
