Christchurch City Mission's operations are impacted for a second day, as police continue investigating an alleged murder on site

A 67-year-old man has been charged with stabbing a 22-year-old in the emergency mens' night shelter, on Hereford Street, late on Sunday night.

Christchurch City Missioner Corinne Haines says part of the campus is locked down while police are on site.

Day programmes and counselling services remain impacted, while food parcels are only being provided for those who have pre-booked.

Haines says it's a tragic event to have happened on the City Mission premises.
