NZTA says a piece of road at Ohaupo where five people died yesterday isn't a high-risk area - and had safety improvements in 2017

NZTA says a piece of road at Ohaupo where five people died yesterday isn't a high-risk area - and had safety improvements in 2017

The head-on collision happened just before 5pm on the road between Hamilton and Te Awamutu - when one vehicle crossed the centre line.

Waikato maintenance and operations manager Roger Brady says there was also a road fatality, about eight kilometers away, on Friday.

NZTA will review the crash site.
