More than two years' prison time for an experienced Rangitikei farmer, over preventable lamb deaths

More than two years' prison time for an experienced Rangitikei farmer, over preventable lamb deaths

Welfare inspectors found dozens of dead sheep in Peter Valentine's six properties - and hundreds of others malnourished and hit by parasites and fly-strike.

MPI says Valentine did little to manage a growing fly-strike problem, despite written warnings.

The 63-year old has been sentenced to 28 months in jail and is banned from being in charge of animals.

He must also pay vet fees topping 10-thousand dollars.
