Aucklanders are being urged to look out for yellow-legged hornets, following the discovery of a queen's nest this week

Aucklanders are being urged to look out for yellow-legged hornets, following the discovery of a queen's nest this week

The sighting was reported in Glenfield, and comes after two males were found in Grafton, and Albany earlier this year.

Hornets are a threat to bee populations, and compete with native birds for food.

Naturalist Ruud Kleinpaste says any sightings must be reported immediately.

He says the threat can still be controlled, if we act early.
