Wellington Water crews are responding to a wastewater overflow in Grenada Village which flows to the Porirua Stream

Residents are asked to avoid the area along the stream from the village, including Tawa to the outlet at the mouth of the Porirua Harbour until further notice.

With untreated wastewater entering the stream, these areas are unsuitable for the public to be wading in, fishing or gathering food from.

Wellington Water is deploying all necessary resource to stop the overflow.

It says it's investigating the cause, but suspects it's due to a blockage within the wastewater network.
