Bruce Springsteen has pleaded guilty to consuming alcohol in a closed area

The 71-year-old singer was arrested in November at Gateway National Recreation Area in New Jersey, and received a ticket for driving while intoxicated (DWI), for reckless driving and for drinking in an area where boozing is banned, but he reached a plea deal with prosecutors, which meant he only had to admit to the one misdemeanour offence

The driving charges were dismissed, with prosecutors telling the court they felt they couldn't prove their case because the 'Born to Run' hitmaker's blood alcohol content was well below the legal limit at .02.

Bruce was fined $500 and ordered to pay $40 in court fees.

According to TMZ, his attorney, Mitchell Ansell, said: "Mr. Springsteen is pleased with the outcome of today’s court appearance.

"Mr. Springsteen, who has no previous criminal record of any kind, voluntarily plead guilty to a violation of consuming an alcoholic beverage in a closed area, agreeing to a fine of $500.

"We want to thank the Court and will have no further comment at this time."

When news of Bruce's arrest was recently made public, it was claimed the 'Born in the USA' hitmaker - who was "co-operative throughout the process" with officers - had stopped on his motorcycle after being spotted by fans who asked him for photos.

A source previously said: "Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary.

"Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away."

According to a police report, an attending officer said The Boss smelled strongly of alcohol and his eyes were "glassy", so he asked him to take a field sobriety test, during which he was swaying, and took 45 steps when he was only asked to take 18.

Officers also recorded that he refused to submit to a breathalyser test.
