Liam Payne has created a watercolour art piece in honour of Prince Philip

The One Direction star took to his Instagram Story to unveil the impressive artwork, which he sketched and painted to mark the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh last week, who was the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II

Liam shared several pictures of the art piece in various stages before showing off the final piece, beginning with one snap of the rough sketch of the Duke’s head.

He wrote on the first picture: “Beginning something really special I hope.”

A second image was captioned: “Taking shape long way to go”, whilst the third was accompanied by text which read: “Hours later ready for water colour”.

Liam then posted the finished piece and wrote: “Rest in peace HRH Prince Philip. Small tribute to you, thank you for your service.”

Meanwhile, Philip is set to be laid to rest on Saturday (16.04.21) in a ceremony that will see just 30 people attend because of COVID-19 restrictions.

An official spokesperson said: "In line with Government guidelines and public health measures, there will be no public processions and the Duke's funeral will take place entirely within the grounds of Windsor Castle."

Philip's coffin will stay in Windsor Castle's private chapel until the day of the funeral, when it will be moved by a Bearer Party found by The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

The funeral service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle at 2.45pm, with Philip's coffin travelling on top of a specially-modified Land Rover which he had helped to design and covered with his Personal Standard and a wreath of flowers and flanked by military Pall Bearers.
