There are concerns courier drivers could be missing out on basic employment rights

There are concerns courier drivers could be missing out on basic employment rights

The Labour Inspectorate is encouraging couriers who think they may be mis-classified as contractors to come forward.

Labour Inspectorate Manager Callum McMillan says some employers may be trying to get around things like the minimum wage, paid holidays, sick leave and rules on employment termination.

Last year, the Employment Court ruled a courier driver at Parcel Express who was considered a contractor was in fact an employee.

People with concerns can contact the Government employment website.
