Police have had to stop a grieving mother rushing towards a teen, charged with murdering her son

The youth has pleaded not guilty in the Youth Court today to fatally stabbing 16-year-old Zion Purukamu at a party on Friday

He was also charged with wounding two others with intent to cause grievous bodily harm..

Zion's family are yet to hold his funeral - after he was killed on Friday.

Today his crying mother rushed towards the court dock where his alleged killer stood - telling him it should have been him who died..

The accused's mother, uncle and grandmother were also in court - but remained silent.

The youth will reappear in court next month
