A call to reach out and vaccinate more remote communities -- following the confirmed Covid-19 case in Bay of Plenty

A call to reach out and vaccinate more remote communities -- following the confirmed Covid-19 case in Bay of Plenty

The case had been moving between Pukekohe and Katikati -- but they were fully vaccinated and religiously used the tracer app, and there's a low risk of further spread.

But the news has raised alarm bells in Bay of Plenty, which have some of the least vaccinated communities in the country.

Western Bay of Plenty mayor Garry Webber says many of those people can't easily get to a vaccination centre.

He says his district includes many remote rural communities, and older people -- and the vaccine needs to be brought to them.

The vaccine is available at a range of locations across the region, including Katikati RSA.
