David Tennant was among the winners at this year's International Emmy Awards

Fellow Brit Hayley Squires was also a big winner on the night, taking home the Best Performance by an Actress prize for her role in Channel 4 drama series 'Adult Material', which takes a look inside the porn industry in modern Britain.

ITV singing competition 'The Masked Singer', in which celebrities perform incognito before being unmasked, won the Non-Scripted Entertainment award to add to the British triumphs.

Other big winners on the night included 'Atlantic Crossing', which picked up the TV Movie/ Mini-Series gong.

It tells the story of Crown Princess Märtha of Norway, who fought for her country and her marriage during the tragic events of World War II.

She is portrayed by Sofia Helin, while Kyle MacLachlan portrays US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the drama, and Tobias Santelmann is Crown Prince Olav.

France 2 show 'Call My Agent!' - which stars Camille Cottin and Thibault de Montalembert - scooped the Comedy prize at the ceremony, and Israeli spy thriller 'Tehran' won the Drama Series accolade.

International Academy President & CEO Bruce Paisner said: "We are delighted to be able to gather the global television community, in-person again, in New York to celebrate the world’s best television.

"The diversity and geographic spread of tonight’s winners demonstrate once again the universal power of great storytelling and performances."
