Kaipara Harbour iwi are "disappointed" and "disgusted" after two people were caught with 138 snapper - nearly seven times the daily limit - over the weekend

Fishery officers found the snapper on a recreational vessel with two people on board, at the Ruawai boat ramp.

They seized the fish and the boat.

West Coast iwi Te Uri o Hau chairman Antony Thompson says the incident is disappointing for everyone involved.

He says all keen boaties know the catch limits, and it's not hard to keep to them.
