Funding technology already readily available in Australia and the UK could change the lives of people with diabetes

Funding technology already readily available in Australia and the UK could change the lives of people with diabetes

Latest Otago University research shows automated pumps which adjust how much insulin is given to a type 1 diabetes patient are the best solution.

It can stop people from severe impacts such as blindness and kidney disease - but Pharmac doesn't fund the necessary glucose monitoring system.

Doctor Martin de Bock says it will remove a huge amount of stress, particularly for parents of children with the disease.

He says all the worry about being unable to do normal things like sleep-overs and sports become much easier to manage.
