The start of term one brings the start of industrial action from secondary teachers

The start of term one brings the start of industrial action from secondary teachers

Post Primary Teachers Association members voted in December to ban all internal relief cover from Term One, after rejecting collective agreement offers.

They also voted to take a one-day strike - but hope negotiations will mean they don't have to go ahead with it.

President Melanie Webber says teachers won't be doing any relief or covering for colleagues who are away, during their planning and marking time.

She says there's additional pressure on teachers to cover classes, and they want to make the teacher shortages more visible.
