A shrinking rental housing supply is adding pressure to Queenstown's employment market

A shrinking rental housing supply is adding pressure to Queenstown's employment market

MBIE rental bonds data in a new labour market snapshot report shows there was nearly 100 fewer rental homes available in November last year, compared to November 2021.

Recently, three quarters of businesses responded accommodation for staff is more than a minor issue in a Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce survey.

The chamber's Acting Chief Executive Sharon Fifield says the report found they're building enough residential accommodation.

She says the issue is a lot of the construction is sitting unoccupied, and they need to understand more of why they have empty houses.
