Concerns National's education policy could run the risk of narrowing the curriculum

Concerns National's education policy could run the risk of narrowing the curriculum

The party's plan includes requiring schools to do at least an hour a day of reading, writing and maths -- and standardised tests twice a year from years three to eight.

Education Hub Founder Nina Hood says while she likes parts of the plan, the devil will be in the detail.

She says with the emphasis on those three areas, we need to make sure we're getting breadth of knowledge.

Hood says that's because they also contributes to strong literacy and maths outcomes.
