Northland's six-monthly tsunami siren test will take place from 10am

Northland's six-monthly tsunami siren test will take place from 10am

The network of more than 200 outdoor tsunami sirens in coastal communities will be tested.

They'll sound at 10am for 10 minutes then again at 10.30 for 30 seconds and will be monitored for faults.

Indoor sirens will be tested at the same time and test alerts will be sent to Red Cross Hazard app users.

Northland Civil Defence Emergency Management spokesperson Graeme MacDonald says people should always be aware of the risk of tsunami - which could arrive ahead of any warning.
