Many home owners and small time landlords are being hit hard by rising interest rates

Many home owners and small time landlords are being hit hard by rising interest rates

Latest figures from Horizon Research shows about 70-percent of mortgage holders are worried about making repayments, with 11-percent picked to sell up in the next year.

It comes as ANZ and Westpac follow ASB and Kiwibank in raising interest rates, despite economists expecting no change to the Official Cash rate next week.

Property Investors Federation President Sue Harrison says the rhetoric around landlords needs to change.

She says many small-time landlords are having to increase rents, just to help pay the mortgage and get by.
