The man who shot a New Zealand born London police officer will spend the rest of his life behind bars

The man who shot a New Zealand born London police officer will spend the rest of his life behind bars

Met Police Sergeant Matiu Ratana died of a chest wound after being shot with an antique gun smuggled into a custody block in September 2020.

26-year-old Louis De Zoysa was left with brain damage after another shot he fired hit his neck.

Judge Justice Johnston says he recognises custody will be more difficult for him, due to his injuries and autism.

He says the aggravating effects of his use of a gun and his planning and premeditation, outweigh mitigating effects including the impact of custody.
