Defending champion Remco Evenepoel has surged to the overall lead after claiming line honours on the third stage of cycling's Vuelta a Espana grand tour

He held off Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard in a sprint finish.

Evenepoel's celebrations were brief - he crashed into a fan 50 metres later, causing a cut above his right eye and this tongue-lashing for organisers.

Of the New Zealanders, Finn Fisher-Black crossed in 57th and Sam Gaze was 164th.
