Data from the Institute of Environmental Science and Research shows there's been an 88-percent rise in the number of meningococcal disease cases among teenagers and young adults compared to a year ago.
Meningitis Foundation Chair Gerard Rushton says it's expected, given the worryingly low uptake of vaccinations in young adults.
He says it's really scary, and they're concerned at the lack of protection against the fast moving disease, as people head back to study.
Rushton is calling for a broadening of vaccination funding criteria.
