Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from Erica Stoll

The Northern Irish-born golf champion, 35, first met 36-year-old New Yorker Erica - with whom he has three-year-old daughter Poppy Kennedy - in 2012 at the Ryder Cup, and cited in his split papers their marriage was "irretrievably broken"

Rory, who tied the knot with Erica in 2017, filed his divorce papers on Monday (13.05.24), with TMZ first to report on the break-up.

Page Six added Rory's representative "confirmed divorce documents had been filed on Monday after seven years of marriage".

Rory filed to end the marriage in Florida.

His representative added to Page Six Rory wanted to "ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible" and pointed out "he will not be making any further comment".

Tennis fanatic Erica was working as a PGA transport official when she met Rory in 2012.

During a 2019 interview with the Golf Channel, Rory recalled meeting her when she got him a police escort to his course after he overslept.

He said: "Erica, that week, was always the one that was checking us in and out. "She was there at transportation, so she was always in the car park over there.

"But yeah, it's still cool to look around and think about that week and, obviously, everything that's happened since then. It's pretty cool."

Rory married Erica in 2017 at a lavish star-studded wedding at the medieval Ashford Castle in Ireland, with his nuptials costing a reported $250,000.

Details of the ceremony were kept under wraps, with guests including Stevie Wonder, Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin.

By 2020, Rory and Erica revealed they were expecting their first child together when the golfer's wife was in her third trimester, and they had daughter Poppy in August that year.

Four-time majors champion Rory marked her birth on Instagram by sharing a black-and-white photo of the infant holding his finger.

He captioned the post in September 2020: "Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born August 31st, 12.15pm.

"She is the absolute love of our lives. Mother and baby are doing great. Massive thank you to all the staff at Jupiter Medical Center and Dr Sasha Melendy for their amazing care (three red heart emojis.)"

Rory infamously split from tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, 33, in 2014 months before they were due to wed.

He is said to have dumped his then-fiancée in a three-minute phone call hours after telling her he loved her.

His divorce filing from Erica came a day after he won in Charlotte, North Carolina - his second straight PGA Tour win and the 26th of his career.
