Anya Taylor-Joy's husband "accidentally" proposed on the bench from 'Forrest Gump'

The 28-year-old actress secretly tied the knot with 30-year-old musician Malcolm McRae in April 2022 , and she has revealed her spouse had no idea they were sat on the famous landmark from the Tom Hanks classic when he popped the question the year before

Speaking for a Letterboxd feature with her 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' co-star Chris Hemsworth, Anya said: "Forrest Gump, I love that movie, I miss movies like that. Just huge, epic sagas where you just feel every emotion under the sun and there's like this beautiful poetry underneath it. I love it.

Chris asked: "Did something special happen on the Forrest Gump bench?"

Anya shared: "Yes. My husband accidentally proposed to me on the Forrest Gump bench in Savannah. Complete accident and he's a boy from Alabama. And I'm blonde. So just, just happened. I hear that music and I cry like a baby."

The couple had just two friends in attendance and didn't even have their parents with them for the ceremony.

She recently told Variety: "We took our two best friends. It was magical ... Malcolm FaceTimed his family from the church. We were like: 'Hi!' but they knew {about the wedding]. We were engaged for a little while ... We got engaged while I was shooting [film] 'The Menu' [in 2021]."

They kept the engagement secret from everyone but their closest family members until their news was leaked.

She added: "We kept it a secret from our friends until some newspaper blew it up."

The loved-up pair hadn't been dating for very long when they got engaged, adding: "When you know, you know."

Anya and Malcolm went on to host a lavish wedding ceremony in Venice, Italy for 150 guests - including Cara Delevingne, Julia Garner and Nicholas Hoult - six months after they first walked down the aisle, but Anya insisted she loved eloping.

She added: "It was for us. It was romantic."
