Pete Townshend is "actually suicidal" when he wakes up in the morning

The 79-year-old rock star - who is best known as the founder, guitarist, second lead vocalist and principal songwriter of The Who - revealed that he deals with dark thoughts of taking his life on a daily basis but turns to tea and biscuits to get out of that mindset

He told The Sunday Times: "When I first wake up I'm suicidal, actually suicidal. I have a couple of cups of tea, two digestive biscuits - apparently equal to 17 sugar lumps - and I feel happy."

The music legend - who has sold over 100 million records as part of the 'My Generation Rockers' - explained that if he was to put pen to paper before he has had the chance to drink a cup of tea, the outlook on his life will be demonstrably more "bleak" than if he waits until he has finished it.

He said: "If I start my journals before I have my cup of tea, I'll paint a very bleak picture of my life. Despite the fact that I have everything that I want and everything that I need ... And I have had a really extraordinary life."

Pete - who previously battled with alcoholism and has now been sober for over four decades - also shared his concerns surrounding the modern issue of social media and noted that so many are "careless" when they try to share solutions to mental health problems online.

He said: "I think because of social media in particular, the way that we carelessly share not only our anxieties but also perhaps our solutions. We're a bit careless about that because what works for me won't necessarily work for you."
