A police officer who used a radar gun without authorisation has been acquitted of lying under oath about his qualifications

A police officer who used a radar gun without authorisation has been acquitted of lying under oath about his qualifications

James Phillip Cox issued hundreds of speeding tickets using radar he wasn't authorised to use.

During a January 2023 trial at North Shore District Court, Cox told a justice of the peace he was certified to use the device

His lawyer argues it was an honest mistake partly caused by a clerical error.

The 31-year-old could have faced up to seven years in prison.
