Sharon Stone was "so embarrassed" when her underwear was sold, she now keeps all her movie costumes

The 66-year-old actress has a clause in her contracts that means she gets to take home all her screen outfits following an experience early in her career when the garments she wore were sold off to try and recoup the costs of making a film she'd starred in

She told the Sunday Times' Style magazine: "After I did a television film in the 1980s they sold my wardrobe at a discount at the studio to make their money back, and they were selling my underwear.

"I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable that the crew guys were rummaging around in my underpants, I thought never again'.

"So I had it put into my contracts that I keep all my clothes from films, unless they are studio rentals."

While some of Sharon's more iconic costumes are safely stored away, she admitted she regularly wears the shoes she's used in her films.

She added: "I keep the white minidress from 'Basic Instinct' in a safe but have a ton of shoes from that movie in my closet, like black split-toe Gucci heels and strappy gold-studded ones. The rest of the costumes are in storage.

"The clothes from 'Casino' were magnificent. What an amazing job Rita Ryack, the costume designer, did. I took the Pucci jacket that Ginger dies in."

The 'What About Love' actress knows her body has changed as she's got older but she's learned to love her flaws.

She said: "A lot of people give up as they get older. They let go of their body because it's collapsing anyway, or it's like, "I'm not defined by my body any more." But you still have to love that body.

"I joke that my underarms have pleats now. I think, 'Well, I had beautiful arms and now they're strong and painting and like angel wings. So what if they have pleats? Maybe that's what makes them wonderful now.'

"I was once at Jackie Collins's house playing billiards with her and her sister, Joan, and Joan said, 'Let me give you a tip. After 40, never get on top and never wave goodbye.' "
