New Zealand needs to better protect itself from earthquake-triggered floods

New Zealand needs to better protect itself from earthquake-triggered floods

A Canterbury University PhD student has developed the world's first database, to indicate how earthquakes can cause rivers to shift.

That increases flood risk through damaging stopbanks and redirecting how water moves across the land.

Erin McEwan says her research provides a tool for councils to assess how at risk their region is.
