Kelsey Grammer is still hopeful Frasier will return

The 70-year-old actor's comedy reboot was dropped by Paramount+ earlier this year after two seasons but the star - who plays the titular psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane - has teased there is "definitely some interest" from other outlets in broadcasting the programme, as well as investors keen to finance further episodes.

He told Extra: "There's definitely some interest in people doing it. I've got financial backing from around the world that wants to do more."

Meanwhile, the Turbulence actor became a father for the eighth time in October when he and wife Kayte Walsh welcomed son Christopher into the world, and Kelsey feels more "available" as a dad at this point in his life than when he had his oldest kids.

He said: "I always think that my earlier years as a dad, maybe I could have spent a little more time with the kids. I did everything I could to do it a lot... The real key is, though, just cherish it - and every day is irreplaceable."

Kelsey previously insisted that Frasier could find a "better home" than Paramount+ because he felt the streaming service hadn't been as "passionate" about the show as he had hoped.

He told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: "There's a better home for it. I mean, obviously, they didn't really promote or spend much time on it.

"The fellow that worked at Paramount+ when we first sold the show there left, and so it sort of fell into their laps, the next administration, without having any real conscious and what to do with it. So I think they gave it sort of a good try, but they weren't particularly passionate about the project.

"We'll end up somewhere where people are passionate about it.

"Listen, it's got a huge audience, a big following, and if people know where to find it, I think they will."

And Kelsey is hopeful his former Cheers co-star Ted Danson could reprise his role as Sam Malone in the next season of Frasier.

He said: "Ted and I might visit actually something together. We've been talking about a couple ideas. Maybe on Frasier. We don't know.

"There's certainly still some fields to be mined there.

"As long as its still a relevant relationship, it will still be relevant for the show. [Sam] and Frasier got along pretty well, discovered some things together about life. They could still do that."

However, Kelsey insisted there's no plans to reboot Cheers, the precursor to Frasier.

He said: "Cheers will not come back. I mean, Jimmy Burrows has always said, 'No, that bar doesn't exist anymore.' "
