A call from New Zealand Rugby League for the sport's international tier system to be scrapped

A call from New Zealand Rugby League for the sport's international tier system to be scrapped

Chief executive Greg Peters has confirmed Stacey Jones' comments they're looking for a way for Kalyn Ponga to play for the Kiwis while remaining eligible for Queensland's State of Origin team.

Only Australians or players from tier two nations can represent the Maroons or Blues.

Despite reaching a World Cup final in the case of Samoa, they and Tonga are tier two nations due to their domestic administrative setups.

Peters says New Zealand players only get three weeks in camp at the end of the year.
