Gwen Stefani is "grateful" for her marriage breakdown.

The 46-year-old singer admits it is "still painful" to think about the end of her relationship with Gavin Rossdale - who she was married to for 13 years before they split last August - but she is trying to be thankful for what has happened because she has now made an album she is proud of and found love again with Blake Shelton.

Speaking on 'Good Morning America', she said: "It's super hard to have your family break up.

"I have gone through a lot, but I feel like you have to be grateful for that. Because if I didn't do that, then I wouldn't have this. And so you have to be grateful for all of it."

Gwen - who has three sons, Kingston, nine, Zuma, seven and Apollo, two, with Gavin - poured her heartbreak into an album, 'This Is What The Truth Feels Like' in order to help herself "heal".

She said: "I felt like, 'Wow, I can't go down. This is not who I am. I'm not going to fail.'

"I had to make something good out of it. So I tried to write because I know that that was my gift. And I was like, 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to make this into music.'

"I just want to write a record. I don't care about anything except for getting this out, and healing, and being honest, and real, and truthful."

The 'Make Me Like You' singer didn't even care if the record was a success or not.

She added: "Like, why would that matter to me at this point? Like, nothing matters. I'm just trying not to die right now."
