Jennifer Lopez's children have to ask to "schedule" in family time with their mother

The 47-year-old musician always tries to prioritise her nine-year-old twins Max and Emme - who she has with her former husband Marc Anthony - but her busy work life means her children have to ask permission to enjoy a "more quality time" as a family.

Speaking about her brood on the American talk show 'The Real', which the brunette beauty will guest co-host on Friday's episode (10.03.17), she said: "You know, they're always first. When you put them first, then everybody else understands the hierarchy.

"My son said to me this week, he goes, 'Mom, I'd like to schedule ... a picnic with you this week 'cause I know you've been, you know, working hard.

"He was with me in New York, but still, he was like 'Um I'd like to schedule a picnic for next Friday because we need more quality time. And I was like, 'Okay baby.'"

However, the 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' hitmaker believes "nothing can prepare" a person for having twins, and she has admitted she did not feel ready to give birth to two children.

Speaking previously, the 'Shades of Blue' actress said: "Nothing can prepare you for twins. I certainly was not prepared. I would say, 'Stay calm.'"

But the vocalist will be "forever grateful" she was able to have children.

She said: "They just make life so much better. I'm forever grateful. I didn't have kids until later, and I almost thought that it wasn't going to happen for me. I'm very aware that I was blessed with that. I don't take it for granted for one day."
