Semi-retired Christchurch painter and decorator Russell Carr was found guilty of international damage after a judge alone trial at the Christchurch District court earlier this year.
This morning the 57 year old wrote out two cheques for the court.
Judge Stephen O'Driscoll accepted the 14 thousand dollars in reparation and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of community work.
Carr's lawyer described him as a valued member of the community who had felt ignored and stonewalled in his dealings with EQC.
