    A Ruapehu ski bus failed nine inspections before it crashed at the weekend


    The vehicle's most recent Certificate Of Fitness ran out on 28 July... the
    same day it skidded out of control on the Mountain Road, killing an eleven year
    old girl and injuring 20 others.

    An AA report shows the 24 year old vehicle had failed its certificate
    inspections nine times since it was imported to New Zealand in 2004.

    The report also points out the vehicle's odometer history is inconsistent -
    at one point in 2011, the reading appears to go backwards.

    The AA says it could be because of human error, tampering, or because the
    vehicle travelled so far that the meter wound back to zero.
