CROs are a family of bacteria that have developed resistance to the strongest
antibiotics available.
There have been 34 cases of people with CRO's in New Zealand this year,
compared to just 33 for all of 2017.
A decade ago only six people on average carried the bugs.
Microbiologist Siouxsie Wiles says people pick up the bacteria
overseas, then return to the country.
She says this is exactly how the beginning of endemic looks - as there
increasing cases, and more people pick things up.
