A Coroner has found ... a Hamilton rest home failed to give adequate emergency care to a resident having cardiac problems
3 August 2018
Georgina Audrey Russo, who suffered from diabetes, died in February 2017, at
Trevellyn Rest Home and Village.
The 59-year-old was found unresponsive one morning,.
She was not given CPR fast enough, or for long enough.
The Coroner found nurse, Michelle De Leon, failed to convey urgency on a 111
call, which meant an ambulance didn't hurry.
Ambulance staff then couldn't get into the rest home on arriving and were
delayed about 10 minutes.
In his report, Coroner Michael Robb found Georgina Russo died from
undetermined natural causes, likely of cardiac nature, with the inadequate care
contributing to it.
The Coroner recommended all Trevellyn healthcare staff undertake training in
real-life emergency situations, and working as a team.
