    Major safety improvements to a highway near Frankton will help future proof the road for significant increases in traffic


    The upgrade of State Highway 6 -Tucker Beach Road intersection near Franklin
    will cost 6.4 million dollars.

    It involves the construction of a safety underpass below the Shotover River
    Bridge and a slip road beside State Highway 6..

    NZTA Regional relationships director Jim Harland says they're expecting a
    significant increase in traffic in the area in the future.

    The road will open early next year.
