Home detention has been delayed for a learner driver clocked doing 212 kilometres an hour during an illegal street race.
He was rushing to hospital to be with a family member who'd just been hit by a car.
Police stopped Tepiwa Riwai after he was seen racing his Holden Commodore alongside another Commodore on the Hutt Highway.
A judge today sentenced the 22-year-old to two months' home detention and disqualified him from driving for 18 months.
He and the driver of the other car have had their vehicles impounded.
