The Hutt Valley is continuing to draw people away from Wellington as the cost of living increases

Trade Me's latest Rental Price Index shows the average cost of renting in Wellington has remained steady for the fourth consecutive month.
Normally prices drop slightly over winter, so there's a prediction we could see the cost of renting soar to record highs this summer.
Trade Me's Nigel Jeffries says enquiries for Lower Hutt properties are skyrocketing, because it's so much more affordable.
He says moving from an average flat in Wellington to an average flat in the Hutt could save someone about three and a half thousand dollars a year.
